It is the utmost priority of GPS to safely reopen schools during this public health emergency. Your feedback is crucial to help ensure students and staff have healthy learning and working environments. During this unprecedented time, the District has been following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the State, Dawson County Board of Health, Dawson County Health Department, and the local medical community. Throughout this pandemic, the District’s first priority has been and will continue to be the safety of our students and staff. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗗-𝟭𝟵 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆? 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗚𝗣𝗦 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆? Because of the reality of all that is going on right now, class lists will be posted in August. We were not able to have kindergarten screenings and registration as planned this spring, so kindergarten lists will not be completed until after that happens. However, in order to set all of our students and staff up for success, waiting to finalize class lists is necessary. Thank you for your understanding and have a great summer!
Within the next week, GPS will be distributing a survey to gain student, staff, parent, and community input in regards to school resuming in the fall. The well-being of our students, staff, and community, as well as “Excellence in Education”, are of the utmost importance to us. Our intent is to build a plan that could be used in the event of any emergency, potential long term school closure, or the need to comply with any CDC/State/Local requirements. The current options while being compliant with Federal/State mandates are: Restricted (fully on-campus while adhering to CDC guidelines), Completely Online, and Partial (any combination of the previous two). This survey will help us gather stakeholder insight on how you feel we should proceed. GPS will share the survey via school email (students and staff), GPS website & social media pages (parents and community), and for those without online access, paper copies will be available in the district business office. We anticipate this survey taking approximately 5 minutes or less to complete. Your input is not only appreciated but is essential. Thank you ahead of time for your participation!

From Superintendent Schreibeis: The GPS Board of Trustees met Wednesday night and unanimously approved the recommendation to continue online remote learning for the remainder of this school year. This is an intentional decision that puts the safety of our students and staff first and foremost. While our school campuses are closed, we have an obligation to ensure our students continue to receive quality education services through the remainder of the school year, with a focus on the delivery of instruction through distance learning and providing school meals to our students. If you currently have questions or concerns about your students’ progress, please take the time to contact your child’s teacher(s). We recognize the closure of school campuses through the end of the school year brings about many questions. Please be watching for upcoming communication from your child’s principal and teacher(s) on how these last few weeks of the school year will be used to get assignments and work turned in, return textbooks and other school-owned items, and provide additional support that may be needed. More information will be coming out in the upcoming days. I also want to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of school staff to serve our students and families with continuity of learning, nutrition, and social/emotional supports during these unprecedented circumstances. We truly have an amazing staff, awesome students, and supportive community! #GPSCommunity #WeAreInThisTogether

Just a reminder for everyone to continue to do the following things so that you can protect your student and everyone else. We have to all be in this together to #KillTheNorovirus. 1. Wash your student's clothes, jackets, backpacks, etc. 2. Clean your house with bleach or another product that takes care of the Norovirus (remember, disinfectants don't work on the Norovirus). 3. Make sure everyone is washing their hands frequently with soap and water (hand sanitizers do not work on the Norovirus). 4. Keep students home 48 hours after they no longer have symptoms. We know that it is really difficult to do some of these, especially number 4. We appreciate everyone's continued effort with keeping our schools and community safe. Have a great weekend! Go #68! #GPSCommunity

Did You Know: The symptoms of Norovirus: Diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, possible: fever, headache, body aches. You can spread the Norovirus after you get better. The Norovirus is still being produced in your body after you get over your symptoms. Even once you feel better, you should still stay home at least 48 hours after. This is vital if we are ever going to get this virus out of our community. #KillTheNoroVirus #GPSCommunity
Did You Know: Soap and Water can wash Norovirus away, but it takes really hot water to kill it. So please wash your hands with soap often and wash your clothes with Very Hot Water. #KillTheNoroVirus #GPSCommunity
Parents, please use this weekend to wash all your kids clothing, bedding, etc. I know it is a lot of work, but when the Norovirus can last 3 weeks on surfaces or clothing, we need to be diligent with killing this virus. #KillTheNorovirus #GPSCommunity
Hello, this is Stephen Schreibeis, the Superintendent at Glendive Public Schools. As I am sure you have heard, our community is battling the norovirus among other sicknesses. Because of this, GPS is taking steps to keep our students and staff safe. School will be canceled on Monday, January 27th. This unprecedented step has been taken to help give our students and staff time to get better, to thoroughly sanitize our buildings, and to try to stay ahead of it moving forward. We want to make sure that we are able to kill the virus in our schools so that we can continue to keep our school environment as safe as possible. Please understand that the only way that this virus will go away in our community is if every individual takes the steps seriously that the Health Department has sent out to everyone. Please review the message that the Health Department has sent out on their Facebook Page and website if you have not already. Glendive Public Schools has also posted this information on our app, websites, and Facebook Pages. We know that the virus will keep cycling through our community and schools if people do not follow these guidelines. We appreciate your assistance in keeping our community safe and healthy. Thank you for your understanding.
Friday, 1-24-2020 Bus 5 will not run this afternoon. Not enough drivers.
The Dawson County Health Department is requesting the assistance of community members in doing their due diligence in preventing the spread of Norovirus circulating in our area. Just because you have had Norovirus once, it does not provide you with immunity. Within three weeks, you could get it again. Norovirus symptoms include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Preventative measures include: Hand Hygiene – wash with soap and water NOT hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer does not destroy the norovirus. Disinfect - contaminated surfaces including laundry with chlorine bleach. Launder – contaminated bedding and laundry should be washed with hot water, detergent and bleach Protect yourself by wearing gloves when handling soiled items. Food Prep – do not prepare food for at least 48 to 72 hours after symptoms end. Stay home – Do not return to work or school or childcare for at least 48 hours after symptoms resolve. If symptoms persist or worsen, follow up with your healthcare provider. For more information click on the links below: Norovirus Outbreak Management Guide: http://bit.ly/2RjNtcH Symptoms of Norovirus: http://bit.ly/2ROWAB0

WOW! Can you believe it is the last day of school for the 2018-2019 school year. A big thank you to everyone that made this a very successful year. Have a great summer!
To help all our new employees for next year, we are asking for anyone that is in need of great renters for their house/apartment, to fill out the following survey. The results will only be shared with school employees. Thank you Glendive for your help with this. Please contact email@example.com if the link does not work. Thanks! https://forms.gle/Dzoyjv1qvExRFMq96
Principal V here, and I'd just like to give a shout out to all Jefferson staff. Teaching is a challenging profession, and the wonderful people here are always trying to focus on the positive. Over the course of the year, we've called students to the office 1503 times for receiving a Dinomite ticket, which is at least an order of magnitude less than how many times staff have recognized Dinomite behavior and given students a Dinomite ticket. Moreover, our school has collectively written more than 275 Postcards to students. Teachers make education what it is. Thank you to Jefferson and all the wonderful people in the Glendive Public Schools for doing what you do for kids. #GPSPride #JeffersonDinomites #GPSCommunity #stayfocused #staypositive #celebratethegood
Around 10:00 this morning, Jefferson lost partial power and all water. With the help of MDU, Holden Electric, Netzler Plumbing, and Mondak Construction Supply, we were able to restore power and water around 11:00am. Without knowing that we'd get power and water back, we had to entertain the possibility of cancelling school, or bringing in porta potties (which would have been a questionable solution for our students). Thank you to these community organizations for helping us keep school going today #ittakesacommunity #keepitgoing

Ballots for the May 7th Election will be going out this week. Here is a flyer that was created to help you get accurate information on the upcoming General Fund Levy. We will only be running one levy this year in the High School District. Please check back on the app, website, and Facebook pages for more information in the upcoming weeks. As always, please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks!
Glendive Public Schools has been working on getting our automated system working for absences. We will start our new system tomorrow, April 11th. If your student is absent, and the school has not been notified that they are excused, you will receive a call from our Notification System (377-9385). There will be two calls a day, morning (10:00) and afternoon (4:00). We want to make sure that you are aware of the absence and if you are aware, that you are reminded to call in to the school to excuse the absence. We thank you for your patience as we work out the kinks of this new system. If you have any questions, please contact the office of your child's school. Thanks!

I am pleased to announce that the professionals we had on site to fix our plumbing issue have successfully restored Jefferson's systems. The school is safe and ready to welcome back students Monday morning. We appreciate your understanding during this situation, and we look forward to resuming education with our students. Thank you all and have a great weekend!
Update on pipes: we have been in communication with the teams working on our piping issues. Unfortunately, they were not able to clear the pipe blockage tonight and will continue working on the issue tomorrow, and possibly this weekend. As a result, JES does not have working bathrooms. Because of the cold, we’ve ruled out the porta-potties as an alternative. Given the givens, JES will not be able to be open for students tomorrow. We apologize for the inconvenience, and want to reassure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff is of our top priorities. Again, JES, and only JES, will not be open for school tomorrow. Thank you for your understanding and please remember, in all things, be safe, be respectful, be kind, be responsible, and be a learner.
JES wants to inform you that we are having difficulties with our draining pipes. We’ve experienced issues of water backing up. We have plumbers on site to address the issue. We are hopeful that this situation will be taken care of tonight. We will keep you informed as soon as we know anything. Thank you!
Wanted: An amazing human being with a strong heart, generous spirit, and a passion to make a difference in the lives of others. GPS is looking for a HEAD CUSTODIAN at Jefferson Elementary School to join our great team. If you want to add value to students, staff, and the community, we would love to have you apply. If you are interested, please call Kathy Nicholson at 377-5385. Information and applications can be found on our website at https://www.glendiveschools.com (click on Menu - Employment).
Bus 3 will not run the morning route.
Buses will not be running tomorrow morning because of the snow. As with any situation, the safety of our students is the utmost importance. If a bus happened to get stuck, we do not want to have students standing outside waiting at their bus stops in the cold temperatures. Buses will be running tomorrow afternoon, as we feel the buses will be able to maneuver better by then. As with any situation like this, if you feel it is not safe to get your kids to school, please call the school and let them know. We feel it is important for parents to have a choice and make the final decision for their student. Please know that these decisions are not made lightly as we know these situations can be an extreme inconvenience for many families. Thank you for your understanding in this difficult matter. Again, buses will not be running tomorrow morning but will be running in the afternoon. We will also be continuing our early release schedule in each school with parent-teacher conferences from 2:00 - 8:00 pm. Thank you!

Glendive Public Schools would like your input! As many of you know, the District has launched a comprehensive planning process to identify the educational needs of the community and shape the overall vision for our future. Determining the goals and aspirations of Glendive residents is the main objective driving our planning efforts. This will be a transparent process in which we will continue to seek feedback to ensure we create vision which reflects our entire community. As part of this effort we will be reaching out in various ways to get your input. The first opportunity is available now through a community-wide online survey. Please consider taking a few minutes to fill out the survey through the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YYSPZTB
The link between nutrition, physical activity, and learning is well documented. Healthy eating and activity patterns are essential for students to achieve their full academic potential, full physical, and mental growth, and lifelong health and well being.
