The results are in from the 2025 regional MCTM (Montana Council of Teachers of Mathematics) contest. DCHS took 12 students to Sidney on Tuesday, March 11. Each student took 2 individual tests and one team test. Composite scores were used to determine overall placements.
Students receiving "gold" status were in the top 10% of their grade bands. Students receiving "silver" status were in the 80th-90th percentiles of their grade bands. Students receiving "bronze" status were in the 70th-80th percentiles of their grade bands.
At the Freshman/Sophomore level, Easton Wold earned "bronze" and Quinn Sargent (9) and Zane Fleming (10) earned "silver".
At the Junior/Senior level, Zackariah Henson (11) and Roman Tuma (10) earned "bronze". Dylan Jolliffe was the top scoring senior at the regional level, which means he will receive a medal and a $500 scholarship. After all regional contests are complete, he may receive more if he's one of the top competitors at the state level.
Teacher coordinators Sonja Tuma and Jessica Myron had a great time bringing an excellent group of students to this contest, and all of them put in a tremendous amount of effort.
The team would like to thank Mr. Larsen for helping purchase the mathletes' dinner. They would also like to thank their bus driver for the safe trip, the understanding coaches who let their athletes attend, and the teachers at DCHS who helped cover 7th period classes and helped recruit.

After several years of no lathe work in the shop, Mr. Dempewolf and Mrs. Hoagland are happy to see students engaging in the art of machining. This class with Metals is one of Mr. Dempewolf’s passions. He has put a lot of hours planning and repairs outside of school hours to be able to bring machining back to the DCHS shop. It’s wonderful to see the Industrial Arts program grow with the diversity our instructors bring into the classroom.

🌸🔬 Exploring the Wonders of Plant Reproduction! 🔬🌸
Mr. Pagawisan's Advanced Biology class took a deep dive into the world of botany as they dissected flowers to observe and identify their reproductive organs! 🌿✨ Students carefully examined each part, from the stamen to the pistil, gaining hands-on experience in understanding plant reproduction.
But the excitement didn’t stop there! They also placed pollen grains under the microscope for a close-up view, revealing the intricate details of these tiny yet essential structures. 🧐🌿
Learning is always more exciting when you can see science in action! Great job, young biologists! 👏🔬

🌱 Exploring Transpiration in Mr. Pagawisan’s Advanced Biology Class! 🔬
The Advanced Biology students had a hands-on learning experience with a Celery Transpiration Experiment! 🥬💧 They observed how water moves through a plant’s vascular system using a solution of water and methylene blue.
After letting the celery stalk sit in the solution for a day, they noticed the leaves changed color 🌿🔵—a clear sign of water movement! Under the microscope 🔬, they identified key vascular tissues like the xylem and phloem, as well as ground tissues such as parenchyma and collenchyma.
By dissecting the celery, they traced the vascular bundle where the liquid traveled. They even observed open stomata on the leaves 🍃—proof of transpiration in action!
